Is it easy for a sprinkler system to go off by mistake?
It is highly unlikely as the temperature will need to be 68°C which is nearly 40°C above ambient room temperature. This means everyday activities like ironing and cooking will not set them off.
When a fire occurs, does every sprinkler head go off?
No. Sprinkler heads are individually activated and it usually takes fire temperatures in excess of 68°C or more to do this.
Recent figures suggest that 82% of fires are controlled by two or fewer sprinkler heads.
Sprinklers are designed to protect property, but not save lives aren’t they?
They will certainly protect property, but they are also a crucial way of helping to prevent the spread of fire, giving the less able more chance to escape or for the fire service to arrive.
If you have both a smoke alarm and domestic sprinkler system you are 95% more likely to survive a home fire.
Will water damage from a sprinkler system be more extensive than fire damage?
Naturally there could be some damage, but nowhere near as much as if the smoke and fire spreads. Quick release sprinklers distribute 8-24 gallons of water per minute, compares to 80-125 gallons of a fire fighter.
How do you test a fire sprinkler?
The simple answer is you can’t. All heads are individually tested during manufacture and we offer a regular maintenance service to ensure the system is always fully functional.
How much is it to have a system fitted?
This is always difficult to answer, as all of our projects are bespoke and have different levels of complexity.
On an average 3-bed property, the full turnkey service and parts would be about £3500+vat.
Will I need a smoke alarm too?
Yes. Whilst all of our systems have audible alarms it is important to understand that sprinkler heads are activated by heat and not smoke.
We would always suggest that a combination of the two is the best way to protect your family and your property.
